Bulaban Circus is a social circus and street clowning community group that was formed in 2020, following the initiative and perseverance of Bouba Haidar, a Lebanese clown from the Bekaa Valley. After living in Berlin for several years where she worked and collaborated with many fellow clowns and artists, she recognised the healing power of circus and theatre arts and its ability to empower people individually and decided to come back to Lebanon amidst the several crises to start a social circus.
Bulaban is a place of creation and encounter, offering a creative safe space for children and local communities.
It is a playful exchange of stories, skills, and wondrous experiences through workshops, events, and performances.
At its core, Bulaban circus provides the space and tools for people to free themselves from societal preconceptions, pressures and ‘ways of being’, allowing participants to explore their bodies, emotions, fantasies, ideas, identities, and relationships without fear, in ways that are healing, authentic, honest, and true. We believe that when people are able to explore and express their truth, then they will act with love and acceptance for the self and the other.
